Disney is facing criticism for allowing a male employee to wear a female dress and makeup when welcoming guests at a store at one of its theme parks.
In a video that has gone viral on TikTok and has reached nearly 7 million views, a mustachioed man dressed as a fairy godmother can be seen welcoming visitors at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, located in the park. Disneyland in Anaheim, California.
“My name is Nick, I’m one of the fairy godmother’s apprentices,” says the clerk, who is seen wearing blue and purple eyeshadow to match his uniform.
“A cross-dressing man is not only strange and inappropriate, but takes the guests out of the ‘show’: the illusion is broken. Nothing matters except the schedule and your 4-year-old is a pawn they are happy to mentally trick,” said writer Peachy Keenan, according to the New York Post.
Dave Rubin, the host of ‘The Rubin Report,’ made a joke in which he mentioned that the employee would be recruited to be part of the Biden administration team.
“What’s particularly interesting about this is how intentional it is. This is a guy with a mustache in a dress. He is not a ‘trans’ person. Think how many real girls want that job at Disney and they gave it to him for a reason…” Rubin said.
“This is disgusting and wrong,” Jenna Ellis, an attorney who worked with former President Donald Trump, tweeted.
In an effort to promote inclusion and favor cast members who do not necessarily identify as female, Disney decided to replace the title ‘Fairy Godmother-in-Training’ with ‘Fair Godmother Apprentices’.
“In this way, cast members who may not identify as female can still be part of the process of dressing and styling the children without having to refer to themselves as a female Disney character,” the company said at the time. .
