This Wednesday the Ecuadorian Police reported that the release of the relative of soccer player Piero Hincapié, who had been kidnapped since May 25 of this year, was achieved.
The victim, whose identity is being kept confidential, was kidnapped in the coastal province of Esmeraldas, which borders Colombia.
The authorities found the citizen in a house in the Taboulé sector, and after releasing him they handed him over to his relatives, as a source close to the case told EFE.
At the moment, the citizen is “in good safety,” said General Fausto Buenaño, police commander of special Zone 1-Esmeraldas.
Until now, the police have not provided details on the search process and subsequent release of Hincapié’s relative.
However, they detailed that two people were captured in the city of Guayaquil due to the fact, while they are following the trail of others possibly involved in this kidnapping.
Commander Buenaño indicated that the kidnappers “demanded a high amount of money for release.”
At the age of 21, Hincapié came out of Esmeraldas children’s and youth soccer, went through several Ecuadorian teams before joining Independiente del Valle in 2016, from where he was selected U-17 and debuted in the first division in 2019.
In 2020 he was hired by Talleres de Córdoba, from Argentina, and a year later he was acquired by German Bayer Leverkusen, in which he has played until now.
Also in 2021, he made his debut with the Ecuadorian national team in the Copa América played in Brazil and was an immovable starter for the national team both in the South American qualifiers and in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
