This Thursday, Inter Miami of Major League Soccer (MLS) announced the dismissal of coach Phil Neville, after accumulating a negative record of 10 losses in 15 games this season.
Through a statement, the club reported that assistant coach Javier Morales will be in charge of replacing Neville.
However, Morales will have the figure of interim coach, and will command the team while another coach is sought.
Neville has been in charge of the team since 2021. However, this season he had a bad start, and this Wednesday, after losing at home against the New York Red Bulls, his departure was consummated.
Inter Miami, which this year took over the services of soccer player Josef Martínez, is five units away from the ‘playoff’ positions, which is its minimum objective this season.
“Phil has made a real contribution to our club culture with his qualities as a leader and insight as a coach. Sometimes in this sport we have to make the toughest decisions and unfortunately we feel the time is right to make a change. I want to personally thank Phil for his hard work, his passion for our club and his integrity as a person,” said David Beckham, one of the team’s owners.
In his playing career, Neville spent ten years with Manchester United and eight with Everton. He won six Premier Leagues and the 1999 European Champions League.
In 2021, he moved with his family to Miami, where he also bought a house.
