After the tragedy that occurred at the Cuscatlán stadium in El Salvador in which nine people died, FIFA has taken action on the matter and decided to send a mission of experts from the same body and from Concacaf to evaluate the security situation of the venues .

The Salvadoran Football Federation (Fesfut) indicated that the international football governing body notified it that said joint mission will be arriving on Salvadoran soil on June 14 to, among other things, find out in depth what happened in the middle of the month of May.

“The main objective of this visit will be to analyze the current situation and establish the steps to follow in order to implement good practices and initiatives with regard to the security of football stadiums to guarantee the protection and well-being of fans and participants”, reads the statement issued by the Fesfut.

On May 20, one of the greatest sports-related tragedies in El Salvador occurred when nine people lost their lives as a result of a stampede that occurred during the second leg of the quarterfinals of the Clausura tournament between Alianza and Futbolistas Asociados Santanecos. (FAS).

After this unfortunate event, the leaders of the Major League and Fesfut were forced to end the tournament.

After the investigations carried out by the relevant entities, the El Salvador Prosecutor’s Office announced that it will criminally charge five people for the events, including the president of the Alianza, Pedro Hernández.
