José Mourinho is still in the middle of the storm after the fall of the Italian team he leads, Roma, against Spanish Sevilla in the Europa League final. The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) accused the Portuguese coach of using “abusive language” and could face severe sanctions.
After the match that the Andalusians won in a penalty shootout to win their seventh Europa League, UEFA initiated “disciplinary proceedings in accordance with article 55 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations.”
“The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) will decide on the matter in due time,” reads the UEFA note on the match played on May 31 in Budapest, Hungary. As indicated by the governing body of European football, “The Special One” is accused of using “abusive language” against referee Anthony Taylor during and after the match between Romanos and Sevillians.
Mourinho, according to UEFA, spent the entire game criticizing Taylor’s performance. In addition, the Portuguese coach waited for the English referee on the outskirts of the Ferenc Puskás stadium to continue with his questions.
Rome and Seville also sanctioned
The sanctions will also be for the finalist teams. According to what was communicated by UEFA, the Italian team was accused of throwing objects onto the field, using fireworks and damaging the facilities. For its part, Sevilla was accused of invading the pitch, throwing objects, lighting fireworks and improper conduct by the team.
