The “outfit” that sparked the controversy was that of a white jersey, pink leather pants and heels that the 32-year-old American trainer wore on February 4 on the occasion of World Cancer Day.
“Is this outfit appropriate for a basketball coach?” one Facebook user wrote at the time, sparking debate about whether Carter “wanted to be respected” had to dress differently.

As a black woman in the coaching world, I take pride in showing that people who look like me don’t have to dim our light to attract others, whose opinions just never mattered. I will continue to be myself unapologetically, pushing and proving that black women can express our individuality while doing our job at a high level, ”Carter wrote on her social media after the questions began.
Before coaching, Carter was a player on the same team that she now coaches in her college days. Sydney was a key part of the Texas quintet from 2008 to 2012, reaching the 2010 Big 12 Tournament Championship and the 2011 National Championship.
In 2012, she was signed by the Chicago Sky of the WNBA to add her first professional experience. she was a three-time team captain and a key player on the A&M defense, earning a spot on the Big 12 All-Defensive Team in 2011 and 2012.
