business-owner-jailed-and-fined-more-than-$6-million-for-employing-undocumented-migrants

A Florida businessman was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison and to pay almost $6.9 million dollars for having encouraged the entry into the United States and the employment of undocumented immigrants, the Government reported this Friday.

The Justice Department said in a statement that between November 2010 and October 2020 Batyr Myatiev owned and managed several recruiting companies in Key West, including Best Results Total Services, Ameri Hosp and Golden Sands Management.

The companies “facilitated the employment of undocumented aliens, who did not have permission to work in the United States, in hotels, bars and restaurants with operations in Key West,” he said.

“Myatiev encouraged workers to enter the United States illegally and induced them to remain in the country in violation of immigration laws,” the Justice Department said.

In addition, the companies Myatiev owned paid wages to workers without federal income tax withholding and other taxes on their wages, and did not report those wages to the Internal Revenue Service.

“In addition to the prison term, Federal Judge Michael Moore ordered that he serve three years of probation and pay approximately $6,869,869.80 in restitution to the United States,” the statement said.
