Pep and his people continue to destroy. Manchester City took an extra special Manchester derby after beating Manchester United 2-1 in the FA Cup final at the legendary Wembley stadium, adding their seventh FA Cup, second in the era of Spanish Pep Guardiola.

The citizens hit first and fast with a great volley goal from the German Ilkay Gündogan in the first minute of the match, thanks to an assist from the Belgian Kevin De Bruyne. Only three minutes later, Rodri would have the second thanks to a cross from De Bruyne but his header failed to enter and hit the left post.

Although City kept besieging the box net with a couple of chances from Norwegian Erling Haaland in the first half, a clear hand from Jack Grealish in the area gave United the chance to equalize from the penalty spot, what the Portuguese Bruno Fernandes would do at minute 32 of the match.

Already in the second half the actions would continue balanced, with United showing themselves in attack and with a City with control of the ball but without clarity after three quarters of the field. It wouldn’t be until the 51st minute that City went ahead thanks to Gundogan again with another impressive volley in a laboratory play.

With the rhythm of the game already set by the “skyblues”, Manchester United had a couple of more chances with Rashford and Garnacho, with two missiles that went far from the goal. At minute 71, an error in the red defense allowed Halaand to launch a shot that De Gea covered and whose rebound fell to Gündogan who managed to send the ball into the back of the net but the actions were invalidated due to an advanced position by the German.

Already at 90+1, United had the equalizer after a carom play in the area that ended with the ball going over the crossbar to send it into a corner kick that was rejected by Kyle Walker.

The current Premier League champion had not won the FA Cup since the 2018-2019 season, when they beat Watford in the final with a resounding 6-0. For their part, United will have to continue waiting for a title they haven’t won since the 2015-2016 season.

The ‘skyblues’ beat Sheffield 3-0 in the semifinals while Old Trafford did the same with Brighton, winning on penalties after finishing 0-0. Manchester City and Manchester United have played against each other a total of 189 times, with a balance of 59 victories for the citizens and 77 for the Red Devils 77, with a total of 53 draws.
