Rafael Nadal, Spanish tennis player, underwent surgery this Friday and will be away from the courts for approximately five months. As reported by the same tennis player through his Twitter account, the procedure performed was an “arthroscopy of the left psoas tendon that has kept me out of competition since January.”
In addition to this, the maximum winner of the Roland Garros indicated that he “regularized an old injury to the labrum of my left hip that will surely help the better evolution of the tendon.”
Nadal underwent surgery at the Teknon Clinic in Barcelona, Spain, by doctors Marc Philippon, Jaume Vilaró and Ángel Ruiz-Cotorro, the latter being the trusted doctor of the “king of clay” for several years.
“The surgery has been positive, it consisted of cleaning the fibrotic and degenerated areas of the tendon both proximal and distal, as well as suturing it to reinforce it properly. In a second stage, an old lesion of the labrum of the left hip that will surely help the tendon to evolve better,” says the medical report shared by Rafa’s team.
The 14-time Roland Garros champion thanked the specialists for having successfully operated on him and reported that he will begin “progressive functional rehabilitation immediately and the normal recovery process, they tell me is 5 months, if all goes well.”
“Once again thank you for all the support you have shown me and that you show me every day.
Today also on my birthday. Not in the desired or dreamed place, although thank you anyway”, wrote the Spaniard who turned 37 this Saturday, June 3.
It should be remembered that Rafa Nadal, whose professional career could come to an end next season, announced two weeks ago that he was not going to play in the remainder of 2023, including Roland Garros.
With 90 outdoor titles, Nadal is the most successful tennis player in the sport in that modality and on clay, where he is the absolute king with 63 titles. He is also the second player with the most ATP Tour 500 titles with 23, behind only Swiss Roger Federer, who has 24.
