The Spanish Fernando Alonso has the Formula 1 title in his sights. The Aston Martin driver praised the performance of the Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), who finished first on pole for the Spanish Grand Prix, but assuring that he will not give up the dream of reaching his third World Championship in the highest category of world motorsport .
“Things can change quickly, so I will not give up the title until it is mathematically impossible (…) We have little chance and we have to be realistic about it. Max is showing great performance”, assured the Asturian in statements collected by DAZN.
With four podiums in six races, totaling 93 points so far, Alonso and his AMR23 have had a dream start to the season and warns Red Bull and Verstappen: “We have to challenge him more closely to see if he makes any mistakes, because otherwise Right now life is too easy for Max.”
“Until the regulations change in 2026, Red Bull will fight for the championships and there will be many opportunities for Max to win races (…) He is young, the calendar is longer than ever, with 24 chances to win each year, so he can beat the records along the way”, said the Spanish pilot.
“He has never been at the level of Verstappen”
Now that he is in one of his best moments after surprising the world of motorsports with that Renault V10 in 2005, Fernando Alonso has the great challenge of overcoming the apparently untouchable Red Bull.
After almost taking first place from Max Verstappen at the Monaco Grand Prix, Alonso was the subject of comments by Helmut Marko, a Red Bull adviser, who said in statements collected by the Motorsport portal that “Alonso is surprisingly fast and very constant, but he has never been able to stand up to Max ”
The two-time world champion responded to this apparent slight by stating that “it is very easy to compare myself to Max when he has a faster car, but when the team fully knows the car and we have it at the same level by the end of the season, I hope he will continue to stand by his words”.
