Walmart announced this week that as part of its ongoing effort to recognize the work of its Health and Wellness associates, it will raise pay for more than 7,000 opticians and pharmacists, plus it is launching the Optician Development Program.
“Today, we are pleased to share that we have increased the salary of approximately 3,700 pharmacists as we continue our work to offer attractive salary in all the markets in which we operate. Our average salary for pharmacists is now more than $140,000, not including bonuses and incentives,” the retailer said in a statement.
The company also announced that it will increase wages for more than 4,000 opticians: “After these investments, we expect the average wage for opticians to be more than $22.50 per hour. It is another step in our strategy to offer good jobs that lead to great careers.”
In addition, Walmart noted that to make it easier for vision center teams to grow in their careers, the Optical Development Program is being launched: “This initiative will help vision associates access higher-paying roles and more career opportunities by earn nationally recognized certification and licensure from the American Board of Optics and the National Contact Lens Examiners as they continue to help patients see better to live better.”
Training will be offered through the Optical Training Institute and Walmart will pay 100%, including reimbursement for any fees associated with certification or licensing.
