A trio of bizarre-looking criminals, one of them dressed in an oversized suit and gloves emblazoned with skeleton hands, stormed a Bronx store carrying more than $46,000 worth of expensive Cartier-brand eyeglasses, authorities said.
Two of the three robbers casually entered Vista Site EyeCare in the Bay Plaza shopping center on Baychester Avenue at 10:50 a.m. on May 26 before threatening an employee and demanding the key to the display case to commit their crime, the workers explained to the police.
The criminals, who also wore glasses, opened the case and stowed away 35 pairs of Cartier glasses before fleeing the store, where they were met by a third suspect.
The stolen designer glasses are valued at $46,252, police said. Cartier glasses vary in price between $500 and $1,600 dollars.
The criminals fled the mall and were seen fleeing the area in a gray van, officials said.
The New York Police Department on Saturday released security camera footage of the three suspects in the hope that someone would recognize them, the Daily News reported.
All three subjects are described as having dark complexions, in their 50s, standing 6 feet tall. One of them limped when he walked, officers said.
One of the robbers was dressed in a suit, fedora and skeleton gloves, his accomplice was wearing a pink du-rag and a blue Champion sweatshirt. The third suspect was wearing a yellow shirt and jeans.
Anyone with information on the location of the suspects is asked to contact New York Police Department Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
