A 68-year-old Colorado man became an instant millionaire and only decided to use his newfound wealth to say thank you to the people who have been kind to him.
According to a press release issued June 16 by the Colorado Lottery, a Carbondale resident who has been playing the lottery every week for 10 years purchased a $2 ticket for the June 10 drawing.
The man was completely astounded to discover that he had won a grand prize of $3.89 million.
According to authorities, the winner was a trauma nurse who worked in New York for 30 years before moving to Colorado and finally retiring last year.
In order to receive a larger payment, the man chose to receive a one-time, immediate payment of $1.94 million.
The winner said he has no big plans for his newfound fortune, just a possible train ride and buying a new vacuum cleaner.
The man, who described himself as an old hippie, said he learned to ski in Colorado in 1972, horseback ride and paraglide, but gave up these hobbies because they were expensive.
The man plans to use some of the money to get back to doing the things he loves most.
The lucky winner also plans to use his winnings to buy 100 gift cards for people who have been kind to him.
