A man has been arrested for his alleged link to the death of his girlfriend, who had cancer, Maine state authorities said. This was reported by the news portal Fox News.

The suspect has been identified as Jayme Schnackenberg, 39, who was arrested Monday morning at 3:45 AM while at her home in Monticello, Maine.

The victim was identified as 42-year-old Kimberly Hardy.

According to information from Fox News, Hardy was reported missing on June 18. The couple lived in the town of Monticello (a community of about 740 people), located in northern Maine, on the border between the United States and Canada.

According to information from Facebook reviewed by Fox News, Hardy and Schnackenberg had been dating since February 2022.

The Houlton Police Department reported that Hardy disappeared from his home, leaving his cancer medication, as well as his personal belongings, so an investigation began to find his whereabouts.

This investigation was conducted in conjunction with the Maine State Police, who found Hardy in a wooded area near Harvey Siding Road. Unfortunately, by the time she was found, she Hardy was already dead. The discovery of Hardy’s body occurred last Sunday, according to the news portal News Center Maine.

As of now, Hardy’s cause of death is unknown. According to News Center Maine, an autopsy will soon be conducted to determine the cause of death of the slain woman.

However, police officers are considering the possibility that Schnackenberg shot Hardy and wrapped her in plastic, before leaving her abandoned in a forest, according to information broadcast by Maine Public Radio reviewed by Yahoo! News.

Schanckenberg was formally charged with murder, although the specific charges are not known in detail. It is also unknown in which prison he is being held or if his right to bail was granted.
