A woman was shot to death Monday night in the parking lot of an apartment in Pasadena, Texas, according to law enforcement authorities from the Pasadena Police Department. This was reported by the Click 2 Houston news portal.

The victim was identified as 19-year-old Leslie Reyes.

Juan Carlos Mata, the victim’s 20-year-old ex-boyfriend, was declared by the authorities as a “person of interest” in said crime. Now, he is wanted by the authorities as a suspect.

The crime occurred in the Oakwood Village Apartments complex, located in the city of Pasadena, a city that, according to the Mundo Now portal, has a large number of immigrants from Mexico.

Lourdes Martínez, the victim’s sister, told Click 2 Houston that the entire family “is in shock and experiencing a lot of pain right now” for what happened.

The police reported that the family of Leslie Reyes called for help, and that it took authorities two minutes to respond, but they could not save her.

According to the investigators, Juan Carlos Mata showed up at the apartment around 6:00 PM this Monday looking for Reyes. Later, both were seen arguing in the parking lot.

Police are considering the possibility that Mata shot Reyes in the head, then shot into the sky and fled the scene.

Reyes was officially declared deceased at the crime scene by authorities.

The Pasadena Police Department’s Homicide Division has issued an arrest warrant for Mata and has requested information from the public regarding his whereabouts. For this, they have arranged the number 713-477-1511, in order to receive clues that can be kept anonymous.

According to information from Property Club, Pasadena is one of the 10 most dangerous cities in Texas.

The statistics reviewed by this organization show that the city is 5% more dangerous than the American average, and that the residents of said town have a chance of 1 in 332 of being victims of a violent crime.
