A new reinforcement arrives for Cruz Azul from Mexico for the next season of the Liga MX, and it is the Colombian midfielder Kevin Castaño.
This Tuesday La Máquina Celeste reported on the incorporation of the young promise of 22 years through a statement published on their social networks.
“Águilas Doradas has reached an agreement with the Mexican Cruz Azul, for the transfer of Antioquia midfielder Kevin Castaño,” said the team led by Brazilian Ricardo “Tuca” Ferreti.
Castaño, a native of the town of Itagüí, was trained at the age of 12 in the Colombian club Águilas Doradas, where he excelled in the lower categories, until he reached the first team.
“One more coffee grower to La Máquina. The Colombian jewel is a new reinforcement of Cruz Azul. To defend these colors to the death, Kevin Castaño,” Cruz Azul said on their networks.
Among the most outstanding qualities of the right-handed footballer are his defensive tasks, and his ability to integrate the midfield and perform central duties.
In the first division of Colombian soccer, he has played a total of 82 matches in the local league, the cup and the South American.
He also has a record of two goals and five assists with the team.
This performance led the coach of the Colombian National Team, the Argentine Néstor Lorenzo, to summon him to be part of the squad that toured Asia and the United States.
In the match against the United States he played at the end of the match, while in the matches against Japan and South Korea he played as a starter.
This would be the fourth reinforcement that Cruz Azul integrates into its ranks for the Apertura tournament. The other signings are the Colombian striker Diber Cambindo, the Brazilian winger Moisés Vieira and the Mexican center back Carlos Salcedo, contracts that follow the departure of 10 players, the last of them Jesús Corona.
The Colombian will compete for a position in midfield with Erik Lira, Ferretti’s starting defensive midfielder last tournament, in which the Blues were eliminated in the playoffs, the phase prior to the quarterfinals.
Cruz Azul, the fourth most winning team in Mexico, with nine league titles, four less than the one with the most, the Águilas del América, will debut this Saturday at Apertura 2023 by visiting Atlas on the first day of the championship.
