man-won-$2-million-in-lottery,-but-lost-$630,000-because-of-the-way-he-collected-the-money

A Hernando County, Florida man struck it rich after taking a short trip to a Publix store. He won several million dollars on a Scratch-Off ticket that only cost him $10, although he didn’t collect all the money.

On Monday, the Florida Lottery announced that Spring Hill resident Anthony Szczesny won the $2 million jackpot in the Scratch-Off game known as GOLD RUSH DOUBLE.

Szczesny went to the Lottery headquarters in the city of Tallahassee to collect his new fortune.

When he got here he was given two options: receive the entire $2 million prize in annual payments for 30 years, or receive a single immediate payment, but only $1.37 million.

According to the lottery, Szczesny elected to receive his winnings as a single, one-time payment. This means that he would rather lose $630,000 just by having more money faster.

The winner purchased their ticket at the Publix store, located at 13455 County Line Road in the city of Spring Hill.

The store will receive an additional $4,000 commission just for selling the winning ticket.

The GOLD RUSH DOUBLER game retails for $10 and offers more than $261 million in cash prizes, including eight $2 million top prizes.

The odds of winning any prize of any amount in the game are 1 in 3.45.
