marta-is-called-up-with-brazil-for-the-2023-world-cup-and-could-be-the-first-soccer-player-to-play-six-world-cups

The historic goalscorer of the Brazilian team, Marta, was called up to play in the 2023 Women’s Soccer World Cup, which will take place in Australia and New Zealand starting in July, and her call comes with an appointment with history.

With her announcement on the Carioca list, Marta could become the first female or male athlete to play in six major FIFA World Cups.

The attacker made her debut in 2003 in the senior team after an outstanding participation in the 2002 U-19 World Cup in Canada, which earned her the opportunity to attend her first Senior World Cup one year (United States 2003).

Since then he appeared in China 2007, Germany 2011, Canada 2015 and France 2019, leaving everything waiting for him to debut in Australia and New Zealand and make history.

Along with Marta, six times chosen as the best soccer player in the world by FIFA, Debinha, third highest scorer for Canarinha, was also included in the list, and both were included in the list of 23 called up by Brazil.

Both Debinha (Kansas City Current/USA) and Marta (Orlando Pride/USA) return to the national team after missing the last calls due to injury.

The list called up by the Brazilian coach, Pia Sundhage, includes three players who play for the Spanish Madrid CFF: defenders Lauren and Mónica Hickman, as well as forward Gabi Nunes.

“We tested 90 players in recent months and I am very encouraged because almost half of those called up have never played in a World Cup and they are new players who will gain a lot of experience,” said Sundhage, highlighting the extensive renewal of the team.

The coach stated that Marta, with 17 goals in 19 World Cup matches, will be the great benchmark for the youth teams.

The players will play a friendly against Chile on Sunday in which they will say goodbye to the Brazilian fans before traveling to Brisbane (Australia) on Monday.

In the World Cup, Brazil was drawn in Group F along with France, Jamaica and Panama.
