In short, the Colombian interpreter is a benchmark for her compatriots to follow and for this reason the authorities of her native Barranquilla are preparing a tribute for her that serves as an example of improvement for the rest of her compatriots.

According to Jaime Pumarejo, mayor of Barranquilla, the recognition for the singer consists of creating a bronze statue of more than six meters.

“We are going to recognize Shakira so that the people of Barranquilla feel proud of this reference of culture, but also so that visitors come to make a ‘pilgrimage’, take a photo, stay in a hotel and invest in our beautiful city”, he pointed.

Likewise, it was announced that the work will be in charge of the artist Yino Márquez and once it is ready, it will be located in a representative place in the city, which will be designated through a popular consultation.

“Shakira will receive a statue in recognition for leaving her homeland uplifted, demonstrating that, in the most magical corner of Colombia, where the Magdalena River and the Caribbean Sea meet, there are dreamy, thriving people who want to get ahead.” indicated the mayor.

Another noteworthy fact in Shakira’s curriculum is the social work she carries out through the Pies Descalzos Foundation, whose objective is to help vulnerable children and victims of the armed conflict that for years prevailed in Colombia.
