Argentine midfielder Thiago Almada of Atlanta United and Mexican Héctor Herrera of Houston Dynamo head the list of Hispanics called for the Major League Soccer (MLS) All-Star, to be held on July 19 in Washington.
This Tuesday the league published the selections for the All-Star, and it is not surprising that Argentina leads the Latino roster in the competition.
Due to the quality of those summoned, it is expected that it will be a confrontation between the best players in the North American league, and Arsenal of the Premier League.
In addition to Almada, Luciano Acosta and Álvaro Barreal, from Cincinnati, and Christian Espinoza, from the San José Earthquakes, will participate.
Mexico is not far behind, as it will be represented by Héctor Herrera, leader of Austin and former player of Porto and Atlético Madrid.
Meanwhile, Spain will only be represented by midfielder Riqui Puig from Los Angeles Galaxy, and former FC Barcelona.
The players were selected through a combination of fan, player and media votes (12 players), designations by All-Star Head Coach Wayne Rooney from host club DC United (12 players) and two selections by the Commissioner of the MLS, Don Garber.
The players represent fifteen different countries and the one with the most soccer players is the United States, with nine.
In total, 18 clubs are represented in this year’s All-Star Game squad: Atlanta United, Austin FC, FC Cincinnati, Chicago Fire FC, Columbus Crew, DC United, FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo FC, LA Galaxy, LAFC, CF Montréal, Nashville SC, New England Revolution, New York Red Bulls, Philadelphia Union, San Jose Earthquakes, Seattle Sounders FC and St. Louis CITY SC.
