One of the extremely important things for when we buy a lottery ticket is that we must keep them or leave them in a place that is easy to remember or that we can easily have them in view, since one of the big mistakes made by some players is to forget of their tickets, thus missing out on the opportunity to collect an important prize.
That’s what happened to a North Carolina man named Terry Peace, who through an oversight nearly missed out on a $1 million prize he won thanks to Powerball.
One of the great desires of Terry, 65, is to be able to live an early and full retirement, which is why he has been playing Powerball for some time, since he considers that the lottery is one of the appropriate vehicles to achieve his goal.
Earlier this year, he invested $2 in Powerball tickets for the January 4 drawing hosted by the North Carolina Education Lottery.
But just as this date arrived, Peace and his wife excitedly checked their lottery tickets, discovering that they had not been lucky.
It wasn’t until several days later that this man’s wife was going through his bag and at the bottom, she found another Powerball ticket. Quickly, the couple checked him out and were in for a big surprise to find out that he was the $1 million winner.
“I have always had good luck. He would always tell people, ‘I know I’m lucky to win’… We just can’t put into words how happy we are and how grateful we are,” said the lucky winner.
Terry decided to opt for a single payment of his prize and after deduction of taxes, he took home $712,501.
Regarding what they will do with the money, the couple will open a savings fund for their grandchildren and another part in theirs; They also want to buy a Ford F-150 truck.
