nato-considers-that-the-wagner-rebellion-confirms-the-division-of-the-russian-armed-forces

The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Jens Stoltenberg, assured that the Russian invasion of Ukraine confirms the deep divisions and tensions in Russia, as shown by the weekend rebellion of the Wagner Group mercenaries against the Russian military leadership.

Stoltenberg noted that tensions between Wagner and the Russian military leadership are internal Moscow affairs, but that rebellion made it clearer that Putin’s war against Ukraine has deepened divisions and created tensions in Russia. “But we must not underestimate Russia. It is even more important that we continue to support Ukraine, ”he warned, after a preparatory meeting for the Alliance summit to be held on July 11-12 in Lithuania.

Stoltenberg stressed that the Alliance’s July summit will send a clear message of commitment to Ukraine, although he did not indicate an announcement of the country’s entry into NATO. The official explained that, during that meeting, a multi-year assistance package for kyiv will be agreed upon and political ties with the Ukrainian government will be improved.

For his part, this week the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, issued a statement after the mercenaries of the Wagner Group rose up in rebellion against the government of Vladimir Putin, and was appeased by the Belarusian leader, Alexander Lukashenko. Given these actions, the head of state considered that the divisions that exist within the Russian countryside are demonstrated due to the fragility of its armies and its auxiliary forces.

National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, assured that the dispute that the government of Vladimir Putin sustained due to the uprising of the group of mercenaries Wagner is the beginning of the dismantling of the system of the Russian president. “All this should make us very vigilant and justifies the full support that we give to the Ukrainians in their resistance,” the French president said in an interview with the newspaper La Provence.

Although, the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelensky, previously described the 24-hour uprising as a humiliation for the Kremlin, which also showed Putin’s erosion of power.

“Russia’s weakness is evident (…)” The longer Russia keeps its troops and mercenaries in our lands, the more chaos, pain and problems it will create for itself, “said Zelensky in his first public reaction to the uprising of the russians.
