A New York father of two and doctor was identified as the victim of a road rage attack in Brooklyn on June 8 as smoke from Canadian wildfires obscured part of the city.
The shooter, identified as Dexter Alexander, is facing assault charges after he and Jaime Yun, 56, got into an altercation that escalated into a “physical altercation” earlier that day near Crown Heights following an apparent attack by rage on the highway, authorities reported.
Alexander allegedly struck Yun over the head and left him on the pavement, the New York Police Department said.
When officials arrived at the scene, the victim was “in stable condition with a head injury,” but as time went by his condition began to worsen and he was transferred to a nearby care center.
According to reports, Yun punched Alexander’s side view mirror, which caused the rage, Fox News reported.
Police arrested Alexander a couple of hours later in Brooklyn.
Yun was not declared dead until June 16.
The medical examiner’s office determined the manner of death to be a homicide, according to the NYPD. An obituary for Yun says that she lost her life due to “an unexpected brain injury.”
The victim grew up in Venezuela and moved to Colombia with her parents and five siblings, who immigrated to New York in the 1970s.
He was a standout in America’s schools, becoming valedictorian at Immaculate Conception Elementary School and finishing high school at Bronx Science.
In addition, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and graduated from New York University School of Medicine to become a cardiothoracic surgeon.
Her obituary says that Yun’s “pride” was raising children and helping others. His children were “the light of his life.”
“Jaime was an enthusiastic spectator and his enthusiasm rubbed off on many people on the bench. He had a peculiar sense of humor and was usually the first to laugh at his own jokes, ”says his obituary.
