What was an open secret was confirmed this Wednesday with the announcement of the Argentine Tata Martino as the new technical director of Inter Miami, where in the absence of official confirmation he will direct his countryman Lionel Messi, brand new signing of the American team for the second half of the season.

Through the team’s social networks, the return of Tata Martino to the MLS was reported, after the successful stint he had with Atlanta United in 2017 and 2018, whom he led to the MLS Cup title in 2018.

“MLS Cup and MLS Coach of the Year award-winning coach, with experience with Argentina and Mexico national teams, FC Barcelona and more, joins the Club while awaiting employment documentation,” The club said about the appointment of the coach.

Martino’s arrival on the bench will coincide with a couple of figures who have been of vital importance for the tactical operation: Lionel Messi and Josef Martínez.

As for Messi, Martino already trained him at Barcelona in the 2013-2014 academic year while he was also in charge of the Argentine team (2014-2016).

On the other hand, he worked with Martínez during his time at Atlanta United in 2018 and led him to score 33 goals and give away three assists in 39 games.

Regarding his agreement, Martino pointed out that he is happy about the negotiation and that he will seek to reverse the complicated sporting situation that the club is going through.

“I am very excited to join a great club like Inter Miami and I know that together we can achieve important things. The Club has the necessary infrastructure to compete in the region and I think that with everyone’s work and commitment, we can achieve it”, said Martino.

The incorporation of Martino as coach seeks to change the present for the Miami club, which to date has lost seven games in a row and is in the MLS Eastern Conference moat.
