Travis Kelce, tight end and star of the Kansas City Chiefs, publicly expressed this Wednesday his disagreement with the salary he is earning at the institution, assuring that he does not receive what he deserves for his work on the pitch.
In his words, Kelce believes that the negotiation he reached at the time with Chiefs is not adapted to current times, assuring that he believes that he should have pushed for a better agreement.
“You see how much more money you could be making and yeah, it kind of hits you in the stomach. It makes you think they are taking advantage of you and I don’t know if I really pushed the accelerator enough to get what I’m worth,” said the considered best active tight end in the NFL.
Travis, 33, currently has a $14.3 million-a-year contract with the Chiefs, less than half what Miami Dolphins catcher Tyreek Hill, Kelce’s former teammate, earns, who is the highest-paid among the Chiefs. they are not quarterbacks.
“When I saw Tyreek go and get $30 million a year, I thought ‘man, that’s more than twice what I’m making right now.’ My agents love to tell me how underpaid I am,” said the eight-time Pro Bowl selection.
In the current NFL champions, neither Kelce nor quarterback Patrick Mahomes, also the holder of two championship rings, stand out among the players who earn the most money in their respective positions in the league.
Lamar Jackson, ‘quarterback’ of the Baltimore Ravens, is the highest paid element in the NFL with $52 million dollars a year; he is followed by Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts with $51 million and third place is held by the Jets’ Aaron Rodgers with $50.2 million.
Mahomes appears as seventh on that list with $45 million dollars a year while Kelce, considered the best tight end in the league, doesn’t even appear among the top 16 paid players, something he confessed doesn’t bother him.
“Every time I talk about wanting more money, they say, why don’t you go to the Chiefs and ask them, but I’m fine because the free market seems like fun until you go somewhere and you can’t win and I love winning. . I love the situation I’m in here, ”he detailed.
Kelce came to the Chiefs selected in the third round of the 2013 Draft. In nine seasons, in addition to winning two championship rings, he boasts 814 receptions for 10,344 yards and 69 touchdowns. He has accumulated more than 1,000 yards in the past seven consecutive seasons.
