It is also recommended to consume fish, seafood, whole grains, eggs and nuts that contain iodine, selenium, zinc and copper.

Among the symptoms of hypothyroidism are: weight gain without apparent cause, constipation, dry skin, fragile and brittle nails, cramps, among others.

This is because hypothyroidism is characterized by decreased thyroid activity, which causes fewer hormones to be produced than necessary for the ideal functioning of the body.

The recommended foods to regulate the thyroid naturally are those that contain iodine, selenium, zinc and copper.

Lack of iodine in the diet can cause problems such as hypothyroidism and goiter, which is an overgrowth of the thyroid. Iodine is believed to be essential for the production of thyroid hormone.

Foods rich in iodine are seafood, saltwater fish, seaweed, eggs, cereals, milk and derivatives, and iodized table salt.

Copper is another mineral that contributes to better thyroid function due to its antioxidant properties. and necessary for the maintenance of the activity of thyroid hormones and the metabolism of fats.

The nutritionist Tatiana Zanin explains that there are some foods that can harm the thyroid such as: soybeans and derivatives because they are sources of phytoestrogens, which perform a similar function to the estrogen hormone.

He cautions that these foods “when consumed in large amounts, these foods can dysregulate the thyroid and cause hypothyroidism.”

There are also cruciferous vegetables, such as cauliflower, cabbage, turnips, radishes, broccoli, cabbage or Brussels sprouts, they contain glucosinolates, “which are compounds that decrease the production of thyroid hormone, which can cause hypothyroidism in people who consume little iodine per day ”.

As in most cases it is recommended to avoid industrialized foods and flours such as: smoked meats, sauces, snacks, cakes, sweets and refined flours.
