This Thursday, the authorities of Puerto Rico reported that they seized nine bales with 328.9 kilograms of cocaine, with an estimated value of $4.9 million dollars, which were in a boat near the Punta Salinas beach area, in the municipality of Toa Baja.
The operation was carried out by special agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), assigned to the Caribbean Corridor Strike Force (CCSF), in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
“Homeland Security Investigations in San Juan continues to collaborate with local law enforcement agencies to maintain the integrity of our borders and make it as difficult as possible for smugglers to profit from these illegal drug trafficking schemes,” the agent said in a statement. Likewise, the local authorities affirmed that uniformed personnel from Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Air and Maritime Operations (AMO), the San Juan Maritime Unit and the Puerto Rico Police (PRR) also collaborated. This same month, the Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP) announced this Tuesday that it seized a shipment of 1,259 kilograms of cocaine and arrested 4 suspected smugglers in the southeast of Puerto Rico.
In a CBP statement, they said he has an estimated street value of approximately $28.9 million. The Customs and Border Protection Office detailed that the shipment was inside hidden compartments in two boats.
The crew of an Air and Maritime Operations Agents aircraft detected the two vessels that were sailing at high speed towards the Puerto Rican town of Patillas when they were intercepted. “The southeast coast of Puerto Rico has been the target of Transnational Criminal Organizations to introduce large amounts of contraband using various tactics,” said Augusto Reyes, director of Air and Maritime Operations for the Caribbean Air and Marine Branch.
