companion-mode-in-whatsapp:-what-it-is-and-how-to-have-the-same-account-on-2-different-phones

Everything seems to indicate that, finally, WhatsApp has complied with one of the great requests of the majority of its users, who, for a long time, wanted to be able to access their account through different devices at the same time.

WhatsApp had already launched this option in November 2022, although it was only available to a limited number of users who had the beta version of the app, as this function was still under development.

However, several specialized technology sites have stated that now, everyone who has WhatsApp will have this option that has been called “companion mode”, which will allow two cell phones to be linked to the same account so that it can be used on the devices simultaneously.

WhatsApp’s “companion mode” arrived in April on most Android devices and could only be accessed by users who had downloaded the latest application update for this operating system.

This modality is also reaching iOS devices, with the latest update of WhatsApp for iOS 23.10.76 and 23.11.0.70, it can now be downloaded through the App Store.

Once the WhatsApp account has been linked to the other device, you can access the chats, as well as send and receive messages without having to keep the main phone connected to the internet. Likewise, the chat history is automatically synchronized, maintaining the usual end-to-end encryption system (E2EE, for its acronym in English).

Other changes with this version are the automatic reproduction of GIFs, as well as the option for users to link their devices to an existing account, for which it will be necessary to scan the QR code, that is, the same procedure as in Android terminals.

Although it does have some limitations, particularly on Android phones, such as the ability to manage broadcast lists and post status updates from the linked device.
