congressman-dan-goldman:-“there-have-been-332-mass-shootings-in-the-last-6-months-in-the-united-states”

Regarding the end of the month of June, which was declared Firearms Violence Prevention Month, Democratic Congressman Dan Goldman (elected for the 10th district of New York) issued a public statement in which he denounced that have recorded 332 mass shootings in the United States in the last 6 months.

“We’re only halfway through the year, and more than 21,000 people have died from gun violence. There have been 332 mass shootings in the last 6 months in the United States. That’s close to two mass shootings every day,” Goldman warned in a press release.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, most of these shootings have occurred in the eastern United States.

Despite this, Congressman Goldman warned that the shootings affect every community in the country.

“As a parent of young children who now have to endure active shooting drills when they hardly know what a weapon is, I am aware that the increase in mass shootings affects every community in our country. We cannot live in a society where we send our children to school and worry about whether they will come home,” he said.

Goldman also questioned the Republican legislators, who have opposed, in his opinion, ending the spiral of armed violence in the US,

“The safety of our children and our communities should not be a partisan issue. Unfortunately, however, the Republicans have made it such an issue, because they put the interests of gun manufacturers and dealers above the safety of our children,” said the Republican congressman.

Goldman, who is vice-director of the Firearms Violence Prevention Force, noted that legislation such as the Ethan Law needs to be implemented.

This legislative proposal was introduced in the House of Representatives in 2021 and its purpose is to regulate the storage of firearms in residences.

This regulation would be set at the federal, state, and tribal levels. However, it has not yet been approved by the House of Representatives.

He also delimited the need to pass the Bipartisan Background Check Law, as well as to establish a ban on the sale of assault weapons on the streets.

“Ending gun violence in America should be the priority for every member of Congress. We owe it to our children, to our families and to our community,” Goldman concluded.
