In 2020, a British couple made up of Debbie and Joseph Goolding made headlines in their country when they won a $1.2 million prize in the lottery, thanks to a scratch-off that cost them no more than $7.
At that time, they thought their problems in life were over, but 3 years later, they say they wish they hadn’t won that money in the lottery, because they were left alone.
Joseph told a local media that during this time, they have lost several friends and even some relatives have moved away from them, which has turned out to be very painful, but at the same time, it showed them who would be by their side, both in the good as in bad.
“Fortune simply makes it clear who your true friends are. It can be insulting if you just say that we will pay for you all the time. It’s a fine line between being flashy and being friendly,” Debbie said.
Incredibly, the couple indicated that they have received criticism from their inner circle, as they decided to continue with their jobs and did not quit, which seems inexplicable to others.
So far, part of the prize has been invested in buying a property, a diamond ring for her, iPads for her children and a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
