A man identified as Sean Caddle, a 45-year-old former New Jersey Democratic political consultant, was sentenced to 24 years in prison for hiring hitmen to kill a colleague, Fox News reported.
Caddle pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder for hiring the hit men who killed Michael Galdieri, who was stabbed and burned in 2014.
District Judge John Michael Vazquez opined that Caddle was “trying to save his own skin” by cooperating with prosecutors, and was skeptical of the former political consultant’s guilty plea, according to Fox News.
Caddle told prosecutors that he wanted Galdieri dead because he was extorting him in exchange for not exposing his wrongdoing, which he allegedly committed in his political consulting business.
Judge Vazquez affirmed, according to Fox News, that it was “one of the most unusual and heinous crimes he had ever seen.”
As reported by Fox News, Caddle offered two hitmen, identified as George Bratsenis, who was a former Marine and an individual with a criminal record in Connecticut and New Jersey, and Bomani Africa, money to kill Galdieri.
Bratsenis and Africa went to Galdieri’s apartment on May 22, 2014, and stabbed him. The residence was later doused with gasoline and set on fire.
Bratsenis was sentenced to 16 years in prison, while Africa received 20 years in prison. They both pleaded guilty to helping Caddle with the murder.
According to The New York Times, Galdieri’s death had resonance within the New Jersey political sphere, as his father was a state senator and his grandfather served, for a time, in the entity’s State Assembly.
Among Caddle’s client base were politicians such as Democratic Sen. Bob Mendez, as well as Democratic state Sen. Raymond Lesniak, according to an article published by CBS News.
