The authorities hope that the evaluation of the human remains found among the debris of the OceanGate submersible that imploded a little over a week ago in the Atlantic Ocean will help to clarify the circumstances of the incident.

This Wednesday, personnel from the United States Coast Guard indicated that apparent human remains had been detected in parts of the boat that was exploring the remains of the Titanic at the time of the emergency.

“American medical professionals will conduct a formal analysis of the suspected human remains that have been carefully recovered from the rubble at the incident site,” the office said in a written statement.

The entity added that one of its vessels will be used to transport the evidence to a US port where the Marine Investigation Board (MIB) will be able to thoroughly examine the evidence. At the same time, the Coast Guard will continue to collect material and interview witnesses for a public hearing on the facts.

“I am grateful for the interagency support and international coordination to recover and preserve this vital evidence at extreme distances and depths offshore,” said Capt. Jason Neubauer, the Board’s lead investigator.

There are several investigations carried out by Canadian and US authorities into the alleged implosion on June 18. The five crew members of the “Titan” lost contact with the outside one hour and 45 minutes after the dive.

“The evidence will provide investigators from different international jurisdictions with critical information about the cause of this tragedy. There is still a substantial amount of work to be done to understand the factors that led to this catastrophic loss of Titan and to help prevent a similar tragedy from happening again,” Neubauer said.

Preliminarily, authorities indicated that the submersible’s debris field was consistent with a loss of pressure in the ship’s chamber.

The discovery of the remains was reported the same day that part of the pieces of the submersible arrived in Canada.

The cranes of the Horizon Arctic unloaded parts of the Titan early yesterday in the port of San Juan de Terranova.

The vessel recovered the wreckage from the bottom of the Atlantic with the remotely operated vehicle Odysseus.

The Horizon Arctic is operated by the Canadian company that also owns the Polar Prince, the Titan’s mother ship.
