A man identified as Jordan Mykol Henning, 33, an active member of the United States Army, allegedly shot his wife at her birthday party, Fox News reported.
The victim was identified as 32-year-old Ashley, who was also an active duty member of the US Army.
According to Lt. Col. David Lee of the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred in Rineyville, Kentucky.
During Ashley’s birthday party, the woman started an argument with Jordan, her husband. Subsequently, the suspect allegedly shot him.
As reported by The News Enterprise, a local outlet, the partygoers began to leave the residence as the discussion between Ashley and Jordan began to become increasingly violent.
Lt. Lee further reported that neighbors tried to calm the couple down, but their efforts were to no avail.
According to Lee, Jordan Henning fled his home in a “hurried” manner, and his neighbors, upon checking the residence, saw Ashley’s body with multiple gunshot wounds all over the body.
Ashley was taken to a hospital, but medical personnel were unable to save her life. She died shortly after arriving at a health center due to her injuries.
According to information from The News Enterprise, Jordan Henning was arrested shortly after fleeing his home, and was formally charged with murder and domestic violence. The arrest citation, reviewed by local media, indicates that Henning made multiple statements to authorities in which he apologized for hurting his wife.
However, the suspect pleaded “not guilty” in court at the time he was charged.
If found guilty, he can be sentenced to a prison term of between 20 and 50 years.
Henning is currently being held at the County Detention Center, and a judge has set him on $1 million bail.
