Much has been criticized for the performance of the Argentine coach, Diego Cocca, while he was in command of the Mexican team in the last couple of months due to the negative results he recorded and which subsequently led to his dismissal by the Mexican Football Federation. (FMF).
Given this fact, the coach of the Pumas de la UNAM in the MX League, Antonio ‘Turco’ Mohamed, decided to come out in defense of the former strategist of the Tigres de la UANL during a press conference as part of the preview that the team will have against the Xolos de Tijuana in matchday 1 of the Apertura 2023 tournament of the Liga MX.
El Turco assured that the bad streak that Cocca had in his international matches occurred because he did not have the support of the board; He also stressed that the Argentine was not responsible for the poor organization that the Mexican team already had under the orders of Gerardo Martino and he was not in charge of the elimination of the Aztec team at the Qatar 2022 World Cup held at the end of last year.
“I don’t get involved in executive decisions, what I am sure was that Diego Cocca did not have the support he had to have, that is clear. Then what has to happen, will happen. Neither was Cocca to blame for the team being eliminated from the World Cup and that he would play badly, but well, there always has to be a culprit, ”said the cats’ coach.
It is important to remember that Diego Cocca was fired from the Mexican team on June 19 after being defeated by the United States national team in Las Vegas as part of the Nations League semifinals.
Despite taking third place in this competition after comfortably beating the Panamanian team, the new Commissioner of the Mexican Soccer Federation, Juan Carlos Rodríguez, decided to leave him off the bench and appointed Jaime Lozano as the interim coach of the Tri to participate in this Gold Cup 2023.
As for Turco Mohamed, he was quite focused on facing this new Mexican soccer championship as best as possible with which he will seek to register better numbers than those obtained in the Clausura 2023 tournament of the MX League; Let’s remember that Mohamed was hired by the board of directors after the dismissal of Rafa Puente Jr. and in the few games that he managed to manage, he narrowly managed the classification of the Pumas de la UNAM to the Liguilla.
