After several “pull and shrink” between the fans and the club, Atlético de Madrid will once again use its old shield in the 2024-2025 season thanks to voting where at least 77,690 members again chose the shield that represented them for at least 70 years.
According to the statement shared by the capital club on its website, “77,690 members of Atlético de Madrid, out of a total of 138,881” participated in the binding vote that took place from Wednesday June 21 to Friday the 30th. “The family rojiblanca has set an example of passion and love for Atleti, participating massively and without any type of incidence in such an important matter,” the club said in a statement.
“68,894 members, 88.68% of those who have participated and which represents 49.61% of the census, opted for the previous shield while 8,796 members, 11.32% of those who participated and which represents 6, 33% of the census, they did it for the current one”, confirmed the club in the statement where it also informed that the shield where “El Oso y el Madroño” stands out will return as of July 1, 2024.
The Madrid club must change the shields in “physical supports (stadium, Academy headquarters, signage), virtual environments, social networks, applications and website, licensees (millions of products of more than 4,000 references) and in third-party supports ( televisions around the world, competitions, video games), as well as with our technical sponsor, Nike, so that the shield can appear on the kits for the 2024-25 season, despite the fact that they are already in the manufacturing process ” .
Atleti also reported that the current shield “will become part of the family of shields and emblems that have accompanied us throughout our history.”
In 1903, Atleti inherited the Athletic Club de Bilbao shield to later give way to a winged shield from Atlético Aviación, an alliance between the team and the Spanish Aviation with which the colchoneros won their first two leagues (1939-1940 and 1940-1941). With the current one, which was changed in 2017 after 70 years of use, they have won the last three titles (the Europa League against Olympique de Marseille, the European Super Cup against Real Madrid and the League).
