The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently announced the celebration of a UFC Fight Night that will take place next Saturday, September 16; On the fight card, one of the fights that stands out the most is the rematch between the Mexican Alexa Grasso and the Kyrgyzstani Valentina Shevchenko, who promise to give a true champion fight.
The information was released this Wednesday by the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Dana White, who explained that in that same fight the women’s flyweight belt of the organization will be disputed to increase the excitement of all those present at the T- Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the coliseum chosen to carry out this billboard.
This event center is a place widely known to all fans of the UFC and boxing in general for being one of the favorite venues for clashes between the most iconic figures in combat sports; even the Mexican Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez has starred in confrontations on several occasions.
The information revealed by Dana White confirms the rumors that Grasso, the best pound for pound in the world today, was going to accept Shevchenko’s rematch. However, it had not been made official and the date of the fight was unknown until now.
Let’s remember that the Mexican fighter surprised the entire UFC circuit last March by snatching the flyweight title from Valentina Shevchenko, who had been undefeated for more than five years and started as the wide favorite for the aforementioned confrontation.
La Guadalajara achieved victory in that first fight with a submission in the fourth round to become the new champion belt bearer in the category.
Alexa Grasso’s fight will not be the only one that will shine on that night, since the American Kevin Gastelum will face the Uzbek Shavkat Rakhmonov in the welterweight category to add another victory to his record. Rakhmonov represents an important figure in his category by going undefeated with a 17-0 record.
