Authorities in New York reported that the 4-year-old Hispanic girl who disappeared from a shelter in Manhattan has been found.
The little girl was missing for almost a week after her mother allegedly suffered an emotional crisis and handed her over to someone else.
The minor was lost track of on June 23. At about 8:40 pm that day, the little girl was with her mother at a hotel that serves as a homeless shelter at 201 East 24th St. in the Kips Bay neighborhood.
According to police sources citing local media, this past Thursday, the mother, whose identity is unknown, went to a hospital and a social worker alerted that the minor was missing.
The parent reported that she handed the girl over to a woman in front of a government building, but could not specify which one. From that moment, she lost contact with her daughter.
The chief of detectives of the New York Police Department (NYPD), James Essig, indicated that the Hispanic apparently suffered a mental crisis that led her to give up her daughter. The girl’s father found out about the situation and reported it to the police this week.
The minor was located in an apartment on 144th Street in the Bronx with the female to whom the mother gave her.
The woman’s identity is unclear; nor if she had any family relationship with the little girl.
The girl was taken to a local hospital where she underwent physical examinations.
