kyrie-irving-re-signed-with-the-dallas-mavericks-for-three-years-and-$126-million-dollars

Free agency did not last long for Kyrie Irving after he signed a new contract this Friday with the Dallas Mavericks for three years and $126 million dollars, for which he will continue to be the attacking duo along with the Slovenian Luka Doncic.

According to The Athletic, the franchise’s decision was made in February and the signing of the contract renewal with Irving will come true on July 6. The 31-year-old point guard will sign a three-year contract that will include a player option in the third year, meaning he can make the decision to stay that final year of the contract or become a free agent.

Irving, who was the NBA champion with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016, arrived in Dallas last February from the Brooklyn Nets, averaging 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.5 assists last season.

The Texan franchise made a big gamble last year to unite Irving and Doncic, but the team lost defensive power and finished 11th in the Western Conference (38-44), out of the playoff spots.

Even so, the Mavericks decided to give a vote of confidence in this sports project and hope to fight for an NBA title that they have been missing since 2011, after winning the Finals by chance against the Miami Heat.
