The 16-year-old boy accused in Colorado of shooting his 15-year-old ex-girlfriend to death after she left him will be tried as an adult.
Jovanni Sirio-Cardona is accused of killing Lily Silva Lopez at the victim’s Weld County home.
The events were reported on June 16 at around 3:45 p.m.
The authorities indicated that the alleged attacker entered his ex-partner’s house by climbing up to his bedroom window.
The boy would have shot Silva López seven times, with whom he had a six-month relationship.
The girl was in the hallway of the house at the time of the attack.
The parents were not at the residence.
After the shooting, Sirio-Cardona ordered the girl’s 13-year-old brother to help move the body to another room. In addition, the suspect took his iPhone from the young man so that he could not call for help.
The alleged gunman ran to a neighboring house after the attack, where Antoinette Martínez called the 911 emergency system.
“It’s sad. This makes me sad because I don’t know how someone can do something so bad,” said the neighbor as quoted by Daily Mail.
In addition to murder, Sirio-Cardona faces charges of aggravated robbery and possession of a weapon, among others.
The couple was apparently in a violent relationship. Weeks before the events, officers from the Greeley Police Department arrived at the home due to a domestic dispute. In that instance, Silva López denounced that Sirio-Cardona hit her in the face and hurt her arm.
It is not clear if the young man was arrested for that incident.
