xavi-hernandez-is-calm-before-the-long-wait-for-his-renewal-with-fc-barcelona

On November 6, 2021, Xavi Hernández took over as coach of FC Barcelona as a replacement for Ronald Koeman. The Spaniard’s contract was signed until the end of the 2024 season, so this season would be the last of his contract if he does not agree to a renewal.

However, the FC Barcelona coach has shown himself calm despite not having signed a renewal of his contract. The president of the Barça institution, Joan Laporta, has conveyed that tranquility to him.

“Xavi has a contract and knows that he is the best coach for Barça. He is a great person and he knows the club, he helps a lot at work. In time we will talk. First there are some priorities and Xavi understands it”, explained Laporta in an interview for Sports world.

The top manager of the Catalan club also argued that they have already had conversations with Xavi on the subject and once the transfer market ends, they will be able to finalize a contract extension so that the Spaniard continues in charge of the bench.

“We will speak calmly, but we want him to continue and so does he. I am convinced that he will continue. We have not set a date. We have discussed the subject above. Now, the transfer market begins and we have already done part of the work. Xavi assumes that the process will slow down because the club is facing other more urgent issues”, Laporta closed.

The requirements

Despite the fact that an agreement has not yet been reached, several Spanish media reports on what Xavi would be asking for to renew with the Catalan club and the demand is quite high, because according to the Cadena SER of Spain Hernández would be asking for about $13 million dollars per season to sign an extension with the club and it would be until June 2026.

This requirement represents an increase in the coach’s salary of more than 200% compared to what he currently earns, which is about $4 million dollars a year.

Xavi completed 90 games this season in charge of the Azulgrana team. Leaving a record of 56 wins, 15 draws and 19 losses. In addition to winning his first two titles as the club’s starter: The Spanish Super Cup and LaLiga.
