This Sunday, Concacaf announced a sanction against two players from Honduras and Qatar for the violent behavior they showed during the 2023 Gold Cup match.
The sanction represents a suspension of three matches that the teams will play in the near future, Reuters reported.
“The CONCACAF Disciplinary Committee has suspended Rubilio Castillo of Honduras and Yusuf Abdurisag of Qatar, following violent conduct by the players that took place after their Gold Cup group stage match on June 29. These suspensions must be served in national team competitions,” the agency said.
In the match, both players were sent off after they were involved in a dispute after the draw in Honduras.
This sanction means that the players are out of the Gold Cup, and this Sunday both teams will face their last group stage matches.
Last Thursday’s game ended with a 1-1 draw between Qatar and Honduras. This Sunday Honduras will face the Haitian team.
While Qatar will face the Mexican team to close Group B of the 2023 Gold Cup.
