The Major Leagues presented their rosters last Saturday for what will be the 2023 All-Star Game, with the particularity that there will be five Hispanics that will make up the American League and National League lineups on July 11 at T-Mobile Park from Seattle.
Ronald Acuña Jr., Luis Arráez and Orlando Arcia for the National League and Randy Arozarena and Yandy Díaz for the American League will kick off the All-Star Game party that marks the brief mid-season break in the Major Leagues.
In the case of Acuña Jr., he was the player with the most votes in the National League, all thanks to the great season that the Venezuelan is having. In 83 games (at the time of this writing) he has batted .336 with 112 hits, 21 home runs and 39 stolen bases, numbers that, when accumulated before halfway through the season, have made him own several all-time records.
The case of the Venezuelan Arráez is similar; La Regadera has not stopped hitting in his first season with the Miami Marlins by flirting so far in 2023 with a .400 average (.389 at the time of writing), with 118 hits and 41 RBIs.
For his part, Arcia has also been a protagonist in the best team to date in all the Major Leagues: Atlanta Braves. With them he is averaging .296 with 66 hits, 28 RBIs and seven home runs at shortstop.
On the other side, two Cubans from the Tampa Bay Rays will be responsible for commanding the offense of the new circuit: Díaz and Arozarena.
Diaz has a .318 average with 12 HRs, 39 RBIs and 55 runs scored while Arozarena has thrown 84 hits for a .287 average with 58 RBIs and 53 runs scored in 293 at-bats.
All of them will join a wide cast of stars including Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge, Mike Trout, Freddie Freeman, Nolan Arenado and Mookie Bets, among others.
