After having undergone a recent makeover, La Liga de España will soon announce its change of main sponsor. According to the Spanish media Mundo Deportivo, La Liga will put Santander bank aside to make way for the video game company EA Sports.
After the contract with Santander expired on June 30, the first and second division leagues (the rest of the categories are managed by the Royal Spanish Football Federation) could change their names from this Monday, July 3 and although they are still The name that will be given to the competition is unknown, various Spanish portals maintain that it will go from being La Liga Santander to being La Liga EA Sports FC.
What Mundo Deportivo does ensure is that the first division will be called different from the second and that the current Liga Genuine or Promises will also have a new name. According to the same outlet, La Liga and EA Sports will sign a five-year agreement where they will seek to connect with different audiences through video games and massive data collection.
Since the 2009 season, the first and second divisions of Spanish football have a different name. At that time it was the BBVA bank that gave its name to the second, calling it Liga BBVA, while the first was simply called La Liga. This agreement lasted until the 2016-2017 season, when Banco Santander became the main sponsor and the leagues were named after the bank.
It all started with rebranding
After 30 years with the same image, La Liga presented a new image change a month ago that is in keeping with the new sponsor. With a more minimalist design with two “Ls”, the ball was set aside surrounded by colored panels.
