The US Department of Justice has ordered Walmart to pay out about $4 million to customers affected by gift card scams that began in 2015.
And it is that the use of gift cards are usually used by criminals to deceive people to steal their money.
Scammers often convince people to buy gift cards from Walmart or other stores by threatening or tricking them, then ask for the card codes, which the crooks use to get the funds from those cards.
After discovering these types of frauds, Walmart decided to block funds from the cards between 2016 and 2017, which were typically in amounts of $500 to $1,000.
That’s why if you were a victim of a scammer during that time, you could receive a compensation payment from Walmart.
To claim compensation, you should review the eligibility requirements, referral payment amount, and claim filing instructions below.
If you purchased a Walmart gift card between April 1, 2016 and July 31, 2016, you may be able to receive a refund.
And it is that, during that period, Walmart took action against fraud-related gift cards and blocked balances that they suspected were fraudulent.
The amount of money you will receive as a referral payment will depend on the value loaded onto the pledged gift card, which is typically between $500 and $1,000.
The payment received is likely to be less than the amount the client lost, as many victims have already received refunds from a bank or other source.
Reimbursements cannot be obtained for money transfer fees, accidental loss, transfers made through other companies, or other additional expenses.
Those who are eligible to receive a referral payment can securely complete an application on the case website.
