“we're-back”:-sergio-“checo”-perez-returned-to-the-podium-in-an-austrian-grand-prix-won-by-the-dutchman-max-verstappen

After a momentary lead from Ferrari at the start of the race, the Dutchman Max Verstappen took the Austrian Grand Prix in a race that was a dream for the Mexican Sergio “Checo” Pérez, who achieved his third podium of the season.

In this way, Verstappen took first place at home, the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, in Styria, Austria, adding his fifth Austrian Grand Prix, his seventh first place in the nine races that have been held in the season and the eighth victory for the Dutchman in the last ten races.

Verstappen, 25, thus signed his 42nd victory in the highest category of motorsport ahead of Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and Mexican Sergio “Checo” Pérez, who staged a great comeback after starting fifteenth and finishing third. The Mexican had a great defensive performance in the last few laps of the race, having a notable dispute with the Monegasque Ferrari driver.

The Spanish Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) and Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) finished in fourth and sixth place, respectively, while the Englishman Lando Norris (McLaren) finished the race in fifth position.

For their part, the two Mercedes drivers, Lewis Hamilton and George Russel, came from seventh and eighth, respectively.

Verstappen remains unattainable in the leadership of the Formula 1 World Cup with 229 points, 81 more than “Checo” and 100 more than the double world champion Fernando Alonso, who is in third place.

Pérez: “We are back”

After the race, “Checo” Pérez was interviewed by former driver David Coulthard for the Formula 1 broadcast, to find out his feelings after returning to the podium after winning the Grand Prix of Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan.

“It has been a very difficult weekend for me, physically, a lot of fever without sleep, but we recovered with the team with a fantastic strategy and a great pace,” said the Mexican who also referred to his fight with Carlos Sainz for the third place.

“The Ferrari was very strong, it had good traction. They have been difficult moments for me and now we have returned”, sentenced “Checo” Pérez.

The next race will be the British Grand Prix, which will take place next weekend at the Silverstone circuit (England).
