The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced that 14 additional subway stations will receive upgrades to be more functional as part of New York City Transit’s (NYCT) Station Re-NEW-Vation program.
The program uses planned outages on weekends to perform repairs and cleaning at stations within a 55-hour period, providing customers with stations ready when outages end on Mondays. The Station program called Re-NEW-Vation is one of the main initiatives of New York City Transit’s Faster, Cleaner and Safer plan to improve the subway user experience.
NYCT has already upgraded 37 stations to date, including E 143 St – St Mary’s St 6, Castle Hill Av 6 and Buhre Av 6 in the Bronx, and plans to complete 50 by the end of 2023, the MTA said.
“Providing faster, cleaner and safer service to improve customer satisfaction is our lodestar at New York City Transit, and the expansion of the Station Re-NEW-Vation program fulfills that mission,” said the NYC Transit president. , Richard Davey. “Customers told us they wanted cleaner, more attractive station environments, and we listened. These 14 additional stations will fulfill our commitment to renovate 50 stations by the end of 2023, while taking advantage of planned outages at stations to bring visible, tangible improvements to the customer experience.”

This past weekend, workers completed 37 renovations with work done at the 121 St jz subway station in Richmond Hill, Queens. Transit employees installed new LED fixtures to illuminate dark areas, repaired concrete trip hazards, upgraded lighting, and repaired water damage to station surfaces. The redevelopment of the station also included the renovation of the transit employee facilities inside the train stops. Riders will now be able to enjoy a cleaner, brighter and more revitalized 121 St station.
