strategy-or-mistake?-mets-acquire-two-pitchers-from-the-mariners-and-release-one-of-them

In the midst of a difficult season, the management of the New York Mets continues to make moves with the intention of strengthening the team, although some of them do not seem to make much sense, such as the most recent in which they acquired two pitchers and then released them. one of them.

And it is that, this Monday the Mets made a change with the Seattle Mariners in which they delivered the left-handed Zach Muckenhirn and acquired the rights Chris Flexen and Trevor Gott, but it did not take long and the first of these two was designated for assignment, a move that caused some controversy.

Precisely Flexen, was selected by the Big Apple team in the 14th round of the 2012 Draft and made his debut with the team in 2017. He was with the team until 2019 when he was released, but before that he participated in 27 games (11 starts) leaving a 3-11 record with an 8.07 ERA.

After this, he went to the KBO of South Korea in 2020, achieving the revival of his career after making 21 Doosan Bears starts in which he left a 3.01 earned run percentage, numbers that allowed him to return to the Major Leagues in 2021 with the Mariners.

In Seattle he had a great performance between 2021 and 2022, leaving a 3.66 ERA in 64 games (53 starts) where he left a 22-15 mark. However, the problems came in this campaign in which he has EFE. 7.17 in 17 games, including four starts.

For his part, the other arm the Mets received, Trevor Gott, 30, has a lifetime ERA of 4.70 with a 16-13 record in eight MLB seasons, wearing the uniforms of the Los Angeles Angels, Washington Nationals, San Francisco Giants, Milwaukee Brewers and the Mariners.

Meanwhile, Zach Muckenhirn, 28, made his MLB debut on May 3 and had pitched six innings with the Mets this year, allowing four runs (6.00 ERA), though he had a 0.88 ERA in 30.2 innings with Triple-A Syracuse.

It should be noted that, among all these movements, the New York Mets sent Puerto Rican Edwin Díaz to the 60-day disabled list.
