The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) reported this Tuesday that it is advancing negotiations so that Fernando Diniz, current coach of Fluminense, takes over as interim coach of the senior team to replace Ramón Menezes, coach of the U-20 and who had been performing that role. , but still need to finalize some details.
“We cannot give official information on the Diniz matter because there are still details to resolve,” a source from the entity told EFE.
According to information from the local press, Diniz, who will continue as coach of the Rio de Janeiro team, can sign a contract of between six months and one year to command the ‘Canarinha’, until the possible arrival of Carlo Ancelotti, who will command the Brazilian team .
The Italian coach would arrive in Brazil in mid-2024, when his contract with Real Madrid ends.
Another detail not yet resolved is whether the Fluminense coach would assume any function under Ancelotti’s command.
If the contract is confirmed, Diniz will make his debut as Canarinha coach next September, when Brazil will face Bolivia and Peru for the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
La Canarinha has been without a coach since December last year when Adenor Leonardo Bacchi, better known as ‘Tite’, was fired as coach after the elimination in the quarterfinals of the Qatar 2022 World Cup against Croatia.
During the six and a half years that Tite was in charge of Brazil, he won a Copa América, lost a final of this tournament against Argentina and left with two other World Cup disappointments.
Ramón Menezes, who will now be focused exclusively on the under-20s, commanded the team as interim in three games, in which he only got a victory against Guinea, since in the other games Brazil ended up defeated by Morocco and Senegal.
