CARACAS – The Venezuelan opposition member María Corina Machado assured this Tuesday that from the primaries on October 22, in which the opposition will choose a candidate to face the ruling party in the presidential elections, a leadership with “legitimacy” will emerge, which can represent citizenship in new dialogue processes.
“One of the achievements of the primary elections is that we are going to have the legitimacy to establish at that negotiating table the leadership with which the people of Venezuela feel represented, so that they can advance along a route that generates a different outcome from that of the 15 dialogues that have taken place so far,” said the leader at a press conference.
He assured that the public “does not feel represented with those who are attending the recent dialogues and negotiations,” and that this internal electoral process will make it possible to choose a new leadership backed by the votes.
“The candidate who wins the primaries will be the candidate that Venezuelans and the international community will recognize to face and defeat Nicolás Maduro in 2024,” he asserted.
Machado, one of the 13 candidates in the primaries, assured that to guarantee this legitimacy, the internal elections must be “impeccable” and “monumental”, inside and outside Venezuela.
“We have to win and sweep the primaries and make it an impeccable event, where Venezuelans have the confidence that our vote counts. Where we are all going to respect the results, ”she insisted.
The candidate considered that “today’s electoral conditions in Venezuela are not competitive,” but assured that, once the opposition internal elections are held, it will be necessary to define the “essential” terms for the presidential elections to take place within the framework of the ” electoral integrity.
“It must be understood that electoral integrity is what guarantees that the people of Venezuela advance towards a peaceful transition that is convenient for everyone, including some supporters of the regime who today may be afraid and to whom we are sending a message of confidence and tranquility. ”, he sentenced.
