As Shakira recovered from her sharp fall while surfing in Costa Rica a few days ago, reports that she and her ex-partner, Gerard Piqué, were in an alleged open relationship before their split began to make the rounds on social media and in the press.
According to El Nacional de Catalunya, the Spanish broadcaster José Antonio Avilés reported that the duo forged a mutual agreement of open relationship that lasted almost three years, and that culminated in the end of their relationship.
“There is an agreement in which ‘you do what you want and I do what I want’, but before the media we are still a couple,” the journalist allegedly told the Spanish outlet.
According to the Daily Mail, the veracity of these statements would also be supported by friends and loved ones close to Piqué and Shakira. That is, his social circle apparently knew about this arrangement.
For this reason, when the Colombian confirmed her breakup on Instagram last June, after 11 years of relationship with the former soccer player, everyone would have been surprised. Piqué, then, was accused of having been unfaithful to the singer-songwriter of “Inevitable”.
“The footballer’s entourage was surprised by Shakira’s statements,” Avilés added. in the same investigation. Another journalist, Pilar Vidal, added: “Piqué does not want speculation that the reason for the breakup was infidelity. However, until now, the information about the supposed open relationship that Shakira and Piqué had, and that apparently allowed them to go out with other people while they were together, has not been confirmed.
The former soccer player is currently in a relationship with the model Clara Chia Martí, who was speculated to be the woman with whom he was allegedly unfaithful to the singer.
For her part, Shakira, who moved to Miami after receiving full custody of her little ones, has been automatically linked to Formula 1 racing driver Lewis Hamilton. This information has also not been officially confirmed.
